Where Our Adventure Began...
We met in 2001 with my first sail aboard Brett's HobiCat 18. I fell in love with sailing and soon with Brett. We spent four years planning to give up everything we had in Oregon to live our dream on the water. Brett had begun building a twenty foot trimaran and finished it so we could sell it. We were were married during our planning in 2004. In 2006, we sold all we had, quit our comfortable jobs and shoved the animals and our last few possessions into a relic camper atop a 1974 beat up old Chevy. The trimaran had not sold, so we towed it behind us to Texas.
We eventually found our boat, by pure luck, in Palacios, Texas. There, we spent almost two years rebuilding her. We moved aboard February 2008, and in July 2008, we set sail (motor) down the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) Eastbound. She was about 90% complete but done enough to cruise. We learned a lot motoring down the ICW and found her to be a grand boat.
We ended up in Lousiana and are saving money to begin our offshore cruising this next Spring.
We are doing it. We are not dreaming of living, but living the dream. It has been challenging, exciting, rewarding, satisfying and truly makes life happy and real. Though it is definitely not always easy on a poor man's budget, the rewards are outstanding, my spirit feels free and happy. We have met some amazing people on the way as well. Palacios will always be my second home.
I have finally found my happiness in life. To share this adventure with an amazing husband, to travel and to live life on your own. To have control of it. To not need the newest and bestest THINGS. To appreciate the nature God has given us and to meet the people He has created. Truly amazing. That is all I can say.
